April 12, 2003 9:11 a.m. how the fable came to be

22 Fillmore Evening

The bus is insanely crowded so the passengers find themselves accidentally friendlier as bodies, backpacks and boxes are pieced together with each new influx of riders from the bus stops. Conversations can be heard about how crowded the bus is, how stuffy the bus is, how late the bus is. Others still relate this ride to a ride they had before, an even more crowded ride so crowded they can barely describe it without shaking their heads in disbelief. It's the fable of the bus rider: the worst bus ride. Ever.
